Shiny Shoe (2017-2019)

“SHINY SHOE IS AN INDEPENDENT VIDEO GAME DEVELOPMENT STUDIO DEDICATED TO CREATING FUN AND POLISHED EXPERIENCES FOR CONSOLES, PC, MOBILE AND ONLINE/SOCIAL STREAMING ENVIRONMENTS.”

During my time at Shiny Shoe, I assisted designers in accomplishing their creative visions by implementing a variety of gameplay features and support systems. While communicating with teams of different backgrounds and skill sets, I built upon existing tools to create entertaining player experiences and integrated platform features.

Some of the tools used to implement these features include:

  • C++

  • Unity, C#

  • Action Script 3

  • Console Development Kits

    • XBox One XDK

    • PS4 SDK

    • NX SDK

  • Scaleform GFX

  • Computer Platforms

    • Steam

    • GOG

    • Tencent Game Platform (WeGame)

  • Build Systems

    • Jenkins

    • Ant Scripting

    • AWS

Below you will find some of the projects that I worked on.

Monster Train

Play now on Steam!

Monster Train is an action packed, deck building rogue-lite.

The forces of the underworld are on their back heels against a fanatical, heavenly inquisition.

As a commander of the underworld, you will need to strengthen your forces with a wide variety of monsters and spell effects.

With the right tools, you can prevent Hell from freezing over.

Unfortunately, I was not able to stay at Shiny Shoe for the entire development of the Monster Train. I take no credit for getting the game over the finish line. But I did contribute to the project in its early stages of production. I provided implementation support within Unity and C# for the following areas of the game:

  • Card drawing and selection states for playing cards from the player’s hand

  • Card spell effects for damaging or healing targets

  • Card spawning effects for placing minions

  • Enemy movement animations

The Banner Saga Trilogy (Console)

The complete trilogy -- Now available at retail on PC, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch! Weave your own thread through this epic Viking RPG adventure with the Banner Saga Trilogy. Guide your caravan across the landscape of a breaking world, where the sun has stopped in the sky and the gods are dead.

For The Banner Saga, our team utilized the native extension framework of the Adobe AIR runtime to support the releases of Banner Saga 1, 2 and 3 for GOG and WeGame digital storefronts and console platforms.

My role on the project was to support game consistency across platforms by working with Scaleform GFx and Action Script 3. I also implemented platform features such as leader boards, game saving and achievements. In addition, I managed the Jenkins build automation pipeline for releases across computer and console platforms and verified compliance with their publishing guidelines.

Death’s Door: Aftermath

Play on Mixer: https://mixer.com/deathsdoorgame Homepage: https://www.deathsdoorgame.com Death's Door: Aftermath is a roguelike adventure inspired by classic RPGs, with one big twist: the whole community plays together via a live stream. Your vote helps guide the Revenant through a post-apocalyptic wasteland dotted with interesting encounters and tough enemies.

While Death’s Door: Aftermath was still running, our team developed narrative content for players to uncover in a “Twitch Plays Pokemon” meets text adventure style game. Our game would be streamed to the Mixer platform for 6 days out of the week. New content would be released on a weekly basis to create a communal experience for players.

We used Unity 2017 in combination with Secret Lab’s Yarn Spinner Dialog Tool and the newly developed Mixer SDK.

I programmed and supported game features such as:

  • Combat Encounters

    • Multiple Weapon Types

    • Enemy Variations

  • Unity animations

  • Game client player stat tracking

  • Player award system

  • Yarn Spinner custom story events
